After finishing the mouse tutorial purchased on Artstation I took what I had learnt and began to transfer some of this over to a personal project. I'd drawn an Avatar that I'd used for socials and wanted to start bringing this to life in 3D. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpn9Z9GttanKwHdANBp535Vw4SJcROgFSH5RmK4rzzJmKI_fuuSXwKNmA1kn0MEJuZylUfMvVDh24bo22KX_l2H__ezrAYNyAa-Oyy_IoJ9xlA1QexecW1ED3erebJqbheIPXdPtWMnvCjyrKWG8j62Ik7kBJobPEE_q2XkLUFK3v19ybHy6RP_XtUI7ht/s799/progress%20me.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="799" data-original-width="772" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpn9Z9GttanKwHdANBp535Vw4SJcROgFSH5RmK4rzzJmKI_fuuSXwKNmA1kn0MEJuZylUfMvVDh24bo22KX_l2H__ezrAYNyAa-Oyy_IoJ9xlA1QexecW1ED3erebJqbheIPXdPtWMnvCjyrKWG8j62Ik7kBJobPEE_q2XkLUFK3v19ybHy6RP_XtUI7ht/s320/progress%20me.PNG" width="309" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">3D model so far</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgenXK6khhyKJcQ2BXaXlN7V5HNllwXiHPy46rpBqYnCXpKLB2qjvbme6rEUxWck1IKR8V9w6eLC5utYhyri2mgWUeP3Q59VGSD6lhUkR7tUmy8gXej__LL5aNenJGlyOwb9H6tOfn6476gLDLZnuOz8JD0VvGc80k3a4Q8N63CXrVIxAJrvgMhDT9Oqf7-/s1080/Artboard%201.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgenXK6khhyKJcQ2BXaXlN7V5HNllwXiHPy46rpBqYnCXpKLB2qjvbme6rEUxWck1IKR8V9w6eLC5utYhyri2mgWUeP3Q59VGSD6lhUkR7tUmy8gXej__LL5aNenJGlyOwb9H6tOfn6476gLDLZnuOz8JD0VvGc80k3a4Q8N63CXrVIxAJrvgMhDT9Oqf7-/s320/Artboard%201.png" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Original drawing</td></tr></tbody></table><br /></div>For a first attempt I'm pleased but I think I may start from scratch and draw out some better orthographics to work from. I definitely think it requires another couple of attempts to perfect this before moving on to texturing and posing this. I'll be looking to implement substance painter into the workflow of this piece to strengthen my learning of the softwares working in tandem.<div><br /></div><div>I have purchased another of couple of tutorials from Artstation and have begun working on the Armoured Female Assassin one first! This is currently showcasing my weakness in anatomy but I'm enjoying learning from this process and will work to strengthen this through continuous exercises. It's been a busy weekend with Blender and some portfolio updates but it's great to start the year with progress.</p><p>I gave myself until the end of the week finish what I started last year and to have a somewhat complete coffee cart render to show. I achieved this yesterday after a long day of fixing some of the mistakes I had noticed towards the end. It is by no means perfect and there is still a lot to learn but it's an accomplishment and feeling more comfortable for the progress ahead. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5yff6eBuCROp76VcTEwuXJazBc5Yd_Pnv0a1qrboPSmEem9U0kf25QfdLSe4m_crtJiPj3wImz0hZsJeLQwk7EYa1p24HukhlOAwAHSAjgc9VpMOlpGC2o0dq9Cp83yFiTD5taLjp_tc2GblhB9unQhhxu124FVddDzpeCKjKZTEbqu-JmLoghQCwRA/s1920/food%20cart%20step%205%20night.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5yff6eBuCROp76VcTEwuXJazBc5Yd_Pnv0a1qrboPSmEem9U0kf25QfdLSe4m_crtJiPj3wImz0hZsJeLQwk7EYa1p24HukhlOAwAHSAjgc9VpMOlpGC2o0dq9Cp83yFiTD5taLjp_tc2GblhB9unQhhxu124FVddDzpeCKjKZTEbqu-JmLoghQCwRA/w640-h360/food%20cart%20step%205%20night.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>I'm looking forward to continuing the blender builds this year and dedicating a lot more of my time and focus to it this year! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1KCiuWYf6B_sEYBWXvKVjxG3k7XV8CbDUT_ttL48JmknzuHnilQ1vdxdZdd2dNokLIu6jolaBDIIDPV0VjEAQU-d3JUG5sbGRXdLDT0iGn6-EJHEsz5xbXoXVsznXQTM4YZ62rMpc7_h8Ba21L0UY_sGluyS_pI6V7wWblBRl75GmASTszkDog53W8g/s3751/Untitled-1.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1105" data-original-width="3751" height="188" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1KCiuWYf6B_sEYBWXvKVjxG3k7XV8CbDUT_ttL48JmknzuHnilQ1vdxdZdd2dNokLIu6jolaBDIIDPV0VjEAQU-d3JUG5sbGRXdLDT0iGn6-EJHEsz5xbXoXVsznXQTM4YZ62rMpc7_h8Ba21L0UY_sGluyS_pI6V7wWblBRl75GmASTszkDog53W8g/w640-h188/Untitled-1.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>Next I'll be on to completing the sculpting tutorial. I'd followed Ali's work over on YouTube where he focuses on productivity and the pursuit for meaning in life. Ali would sometimes mention his love for Brandon Sanderson's books and had a podcast episode with the man himself talking about his journey to becoming an author and his creative process. After listening to this episode I was instantly inspired to go back to Sanderson's work, as the Mistborn series had become some of my favourite fiction books. I've dived back in to The Way of Kings picking up from where I left Kala<span style="font-family: inherit;">din traini</span>ng bridge crew 4 and excited to continue the series! It's good to be reading again.</p><p><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><b><i>Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination. - The First Ideal of the Knights Radiant - Brandon Sanderson</i></b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><b><br /></b></span></p><p style="text-align: left;">I've almost finished the Coffee Food Cart in Blender this week. I need to make some final adjustments and add some final details and I will be ready to start following the UV's and materials tutorial! I am feeling more comfortable as I go through this pushing myself through the things I'm feeling anxious about! A couple of weeks a go I was focusing on some private work and due to my day work being hectic I've had to take a step back and rest. Last weekend I had two late nights and knocked my sleep pattern out completely and I've only just recovered. I have Monday off and already feel recuperated and ready to return to focusing on progress after going to bed earlier Saturday.</p><p>This month I've managed to work through a lot of Adorkastock Sketch sessions and am so grateful for this platform for study. I am excited to use Adorkastock, Posearchive and Jookpubstock to further develop exciting poses within my work.</p><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOcInj1XwolPg1bImWw13J657jlcJTfYRgZSsGrIxPVSYWj-Ru7ypJJpyYIru3hopD53L9mSrSl0f4dNkHNlWnUK8ydNG-iAKxH_etKFTYA_xgTaPZRTq6ZS-mMGgSMVgAVG2TOdai2O-cFJIfwMP70WHDZi2PjR6J24GYoo3guBoM4nvEf21vvukOoQ/s12731/Figure%20Drawing%20-%20Adorkastock%20Sketch%20-%20October%20sessions.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" data-original-height="4500" data-original-width="12731" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOcInj1XwolPg1bImWw13J657jlcJTfYRgZSsGrIxPVSYWj-Ru7ypJJpyYIru3hopD53L9mSrSl0f4dNkHNlWnUK8ydNG-iAKxH_etKFTYA_xgTaPZRTq6ZS-mMGgSMVgAVG2TOdai2O-cFJIfwMP70WHDZi2PjR6J24GYoo3guBoM4nvEf21vvukOoQ/w640-h226/Figure%20Drawing%20-%20Adorkastock%20Sketch%20-%20October%20sessions.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>Doing this blog post each month is great to see all these sessions combined. These sessions have been something I've looked forward to on the days I have dedicated to them and will definitely stick around as a weekly staple of my journey.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6k9tDS01TRFqkHzOPySHbM6M07ThVZ3sPrTaKQ2s9QPdWj1panDLONEIqn0B7npViNJXmhqkCkmKrCLjVH_M96k8-Fsbtv1WdMP62PUzHmUmaw5989aJDqeEMXk7pclzw7h0rjBYFJkueNq3tZR9jNvIio31h7Wid_gcDMQqDgQ2fEohmPedzS8Ojww/s8000/Digital%20Painting%20Workout%20day%204-5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2861" data-original-width="8000" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6k9tDS01TRFqkHzOPySHbM6M07ThVZ3sPrTaKQ2s9QPdWj1panDLONEIqn0B7npViNJXmhqkCkmKrCLjVH_M96k8-Fsbtv1WdMP62PUzHmUmaw5989aJDqeEMXk7pclzw7h0rjBYFJkueNq3tZR9jNvIio31h7Wid_gcDMQqDgQ2fEohmPedzS8Ojww/w640-h228/Digital%20Painting%20Workout%20day%204-5.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>This month the Digital Painting Workouts have dropped to the wayside, but this has brought a realisation of need to focus on my development here. These are 30 minute sessions and I need to drop these in to continue challenging myself and iron through these creases in my skillset. The session on the left was to utilise the darker values and create the image whereas the right session was focused on using the lighter values. Trying to recreate both images through the use of a reduced value set and achieve a similar look to the original. </p><p>The Blender progress has also fallen to the wayside. This is something I will be pushing a lot of focus on in my development and my planning over the coming months to make sure I am progressing and learning intentionally.</p><p>Thanks for reading and I'll let you know of my progress over this coming week as I use the rest of today and tomorrow to plan out my intentions and realign! </p>Max Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14145174288901204984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1227109061929004100.post-55578552874748890392022-10-16T19:52:00.000+01:002022-10-16T19:52:04.546+01:00Figure it out<p>After last week's episode of Diary of A CEO my wife bought Marie Forleo's Everything Is Figureoutable. I finished listening to it through the Audible at work this week and enjoyed it for the most part. It spurred me on throughout my week with the mantra - Everything is Figureoutable , to continue to try and figure things out in my life. Accompanied by my repeat listens to Ryan Holiday's stoic book that I mentioned last week, they have been key reminders of how although things are difficult and not everything is clear all the time but I can work through these problems to where I want to be.</p><p>One of my key focus areas from last week was to begin to develop ideas around the character design challenge. I'd started off ok on Monday but this fell to the wayside as life got in the way throughout the rest of the week. I worked through a few Adorkastock sketch sessions this week and I've also bolstered my references for poses and invested in patreon for two other reference providers - Jookpubstock and The Pose Archives.</p><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOMujpCODr4JAZ79b_XojpUdl7YxfiABhj8QGvk4kVhxq9iJ6hkO6BHmagYABVlYLVZhGO98PsDUCM9r2eq1HwWTdvlcTuzIJ-f9QjLcAyB6mapS7-8CpnOscWa6UgyXGqunZGCIX9sINGR-K9G3DrPIiAc4pjPz5oCBAmZHl2lr8x3zrX2ctMsr-Plg/s3508/pose%20archives%20-%2005-10-22.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" data-original-height="2480" data-original-width="3508" height="452" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOMujpCODr4JAZ79b_XojpUdl7YxfiABhj8QGvk4kVhxq9iJ6hkO6BHmagYABVlYLVZhGO98PsDUCM9r2eq1HwWTdvlcTuzIJ-f9QjLcAyB6mapS7-8CpnOscWa6UgyXGqunZGCIX9sINGR-K9G3DrPIiAc4pjPz5oCBAmZHl2lr8x3zrX2ctMsr-Plg/w640-h452/pose%20archives%20-%2005-10-22.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Another key focus for this weeks work was the continuation of the Schoolism tutorials for the Food Cart that I'm building in Blender and then also focusing on some Digital painting areas with the workouts and the Starting Your Journey courses. The food cart is going well, I've blocked out the main structures and just need to finish adding in all the details before moving on to the UV's and material lesson to begin to add some colour to the render. <div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdio3Bz-VSAkoOjaRMpQnkVcxYHxGduOHS8-yr7iKuCa1cfxikoxBTFyBzHwe04XFY4rd4QiiwRPpE4Z1Byh0CCDAKCA4J2POTA2CaKXkZau55b-0ChW9DUbbLM84YZOAeWicP9SiOXnyqevwNspLvKP7R-MuMaACHkWjd6XdUASyV6OpYvdN3JZsmRg/s1920/food%20cart%20step%202.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdio3Bz-VSAkoOjaRMpQnkVcxYHxGduOHS8-yr7iKuCa1cfxikoxBTFyBzHwe04XFY4rd4QiiwRPpE4Z1Byh0CCDAKCA4J2POTA2CaKXkZau55b-0ChW9DUbbLM84YZOAeWicP9SiOXnyqevwNspLvKP7R-MuMaACHkWjd6XdUASyV6OpYvdN3JZsmRg/w640-h360/food%20cart%20step%202.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /></div><div>As I progress through this tutorial I keep hitting areas of anxiety over my confidence with 3D! I start to lag and have concerns how I'm going to work through certain sections but I know that I can push through and figure it out. (<i>As Marie says - Everything is Figureoutable</i>) It's only through practice that I will get better at this. It's all a learning process and through trials of failing and learning I'll get better.</div><div><br /></div><div>Next week I have some private work on a website design so I may be less able to dedicate as much time to studies and learning. But the main focus will to continue to boost confidence in Blender with the Food Cart tutorial accompanied with an ebook I bought on gumroad (I'll feature this more next week as I read through it) and then continue my development for this month's Character Design Challenge which I'll share my progress with next week.</div>Max Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14145174288901204984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1227109061929004100.post-20440527906074044322022-10-09T16:56:00.004+01:002022-10-09T19:31:46.117+01:00Planning to fail through reflectionIn the recent months I have used Sunday as a day of reflection and planning the week ahead. This blog is now becoming part of that process to share with you the trials of the week - what worked and what didn't and how I can learn to process this for the future. <div><br /></div><div>Last Sunday I planned out what I wanted to achieve for the week and then used my Google calendar to block out hour sessions for me to complete these tasks. Implementing this has meant that by blocking out these dedicated time spaces I know that I have to focus for. I'll leave my phone in another room to reduce distraction from social media apps and non urgent notifications from Whatsapp etc. I can then look to maximise this time to progress with intention.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm trying to use time that I would before have used to scroll through social media meaninglessly such as my lunch break. During my half hour lunch break this week I have been looking through the Force - Figure drawing book and then doing a couple quick figure sketches. This has been a much better use of this time and a good way to break up my day with creativity.</div><div><br /></div><div>I've been making my way through Matt D'Avella's podcaste - The Ground Up Show this week where he had interviewed Tyler Babin who at the time was working for Gary Vee. They mentioned the book - The Obstacle is The Way by Ryan Holiday who I'd seen pop up on my YouTube algorithm. His content revolves around the teachings of the stoics, specifically Marcus Aurelius, to invert the ideas around obstacles in our lives. Rather than treat these as obstacles that halt progress in our lives it asks you to think of these obstacles as a path. Use these trials, through persistence, to either fuel your push on your path or learn whatever lesson you can from the obstacle rather than focusing on the negatives. </div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><i>"What stands in the way becomes the way" (Ryan Holiday) </i></b></div><div><br /></div><div>I've listened to The Obstacle is The Way audiobook twice this week and it has bolstered my persistence towards self development. Things are difficult currently, but that's life, it is hard at times but it's at these times that we have to continue to push through. There are things that happen that are out of our control, focus on the variables that you can control and the things you can't, deal with them when they come and turn them into opportunities. </div><div><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtHvc1IKeVu6WLBqqZKI99OPq4m6eBHXkeDP7U36x_gvKLNYiyPycJwHYaMt5dlYyhTMTswtf_InngzBY1XJcafqG1-CHpH8Vr81gf2k6glR422Ytow0af2VSKEJBc7LYItqR-qL-qDrcpaAgqQqP7Jd2A_o-f1uE8wDVy26Hdsh__AJ0qTP4ghu39QQ/s3508/Marvel%20Fan%20art%20-%20Spidergwen%20Final.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2480" data-original-width="3508" height="453" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtHvc1IKeVu6WLBqqZKI99OPq4m6eBHXkeDP7U36x_gvKLNYiyPycJwHYaMt5dlYyhTMTswtf_InngzBY1XJcafqG1-CHpH8Vr81gf2k6glR422Ytow0af2VSKEJBc7LYItqR-qL-qDrcpaAgqQqP7Jd2A_o-f1uE8wDVy26Hdsh__AJ0qTP4ghu39QQ/w640-h453/Marvel%20Fan%20art%20-%20Spidergwen%20Final.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">SpiderGwen Marvel Fan art</td></tr></tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div>This week I'd finished up an old Character Design Challenge of a SpiderGwen Marvel Fan art that I'd missed posting due to time constraints. I love the colours of this but there are failures around the anatomy, specifically the hands. Learning from this I need to make sure I take pictures and utilise reference for these situations to intentionally get better. I'm going to use these challenges as a proper brief and develop a story every month around the character, something that I haven't always done because I've not planned to focus. </div><div><br /></div><div>Below is the digital painting workout lessons that I've been working on from the Schoolism courses. These two were focused around developing a picture within half an hour with limited values. The first on the left with just black and white and then the one to the right through a limited palette of 4 values. I'm also making my way through the Starting your Journey to build up from the foundations of digital painting. This week was basic exercises through creating lines and building simple images from lines to create different emotions.<br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN7drcbMqI2UxeO7owdwu31RaV-hVtiysvPgJAWRhMiiihFOjYm-b7ee4qKMRaSZPb9fy87bmGbow7iyiV0tLSJBfnaisHK_vJTJzky-houv64Zhd4fmcIVliWyKbjf2kKZ53JRvj3nRiME1r6kjrMhmcIj6eChwCRxxlL6zi6R1cC07V0kc6WszDwsQ/s3508/DAY%202%20AND%203.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1496" data-original-width="3508" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN7drcbMqI2UxeO7owdwu31RaV-hVtiysvPgJAWRhMiiihFOjYm-b7ee4qKMRaSZPb9fy87bmGbow7iyiV0tLSJBfnaisHK_vJTJzky-houv64Zhd4fmcIVliWyKbjf2kKZ53JRvj3nRiME1r6kjrMhmcIj6eChwCRxxlL6zi6R1cC07V0kc6WszDwsQ/w640-h272/DAY%202%20AND%203.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Digital Painting workouts with Walter Tulp</td></tr></tbody></table></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm making my way through both LinkedIn tutorials for After Effects focused around Motion Design for animating a logo and then making progress through the Schoolism Blender tutorials for the food cart. Adorkastock has recently become my go to for poses and earlier in the month I signed up to their Patreon for the additional packs provided. I am grateful for their work and how it has helped me create dynamic poses for some of my designs.</div><div><br /></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCNCyDqTI_VkSKOT81_oNN_qPWbiQNNiWAzuibSBdZdiOxW7j-gW7XWgXW4_S3FFIhdNqZRRAdz3yIxzqohCjtH8DGecch2KSzhyvu4tCwkdXgMGdjH3n-HD9o3j1kdZ6dzBYVnWKg9DGRi_VwtsV_wgyZjhlkn9HEqta5x6wUmecrbmexI-ZOc2lY6g/s4000/figuary%202020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2250" data-original-width="4000" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCNCyDqTI_VkSKOT81_oNN_qPWbiQNNiWAzuibSBdZdiOxW7j-gW7XWgXW4_S3FFIhdNqZRRAdz3yIxzqohCjtH8DGecch2KSzhyvu4tCwkdXgMGdjH3n-HD9o3j1kdZ6dzBYVnWKg9DGRi_VwtsV_wgyZjhlkn9HEqta5x6wUmecrbmexI-ZOc2lY6g/w640-h360/figuary%202020.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Figuary 2020 (Croquis Cafe)<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /></div><div>Adorkastock has a figure/gesture drawing app called <a href="https://www.adorkastock.com/sketch/" target="_blank">Adorkastock Sketch</a> on their website which features many different poses for referencing or practicing. I utilise the class mode which has 3 options dependent on your time or mood for practice. I focus on the standard mode which is 30 minutes and 18 poses ranging from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. I feel that I've got better at creating more intentional lines rather than the 'fairy lines' that I'd produced in 2020, especially in the shorter time constraints I've managed to focus more on the gesture of the pose than the outline specifically.</div><div><br /></div><div>Below are my practices from this month and August- </div><div><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP_2_ZuWXVC-E_XAtf5xi3d5Ti2BqLV8Voizw8rY-zfwZ-Aw_6E-sNVMcq2PlrZlMkp9vghBqTZbP2mFsczCRwnA85O8uKMB3jbUwinp8zAyvNdRfYKTRmJ9-ExxxNdy7bvy8QvLRXpVz8Iis_ntbuy-MTpdvzEOXfXVV8sNchDCRe1vuLYd_51XEvLw/s4774/Adorkastock%20September.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2250" data-original-width="4774" height="302" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP_2_ZuWXVC-E_XAtf5xi3d5Ti2BqLV8Voizw8rY-zfwZ-Aw_6E-sNVMcq2PlrZlMkp9vghBqTZbP2mFsczCRwnA85O8uKMB3jbUwinp8zAyvNdRfYKTRmJ9-ExxxNdy7bvy8QvLRXpVz8Iis_ntbuy-MTpdvzEOXfXVV8sNchDCRe1vuLYd_51XEvLw/w640-h302/Adorkastock%20September.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr></tbody></table>Moving forward I need to add some intentional steps to improve. I will be using the Schoolism platform to advance this, I had previously gone through part of the Alex Woo gesture drawing course but will look to finish it this time. I have also got hold of a couple of reference books to look through - Force Dynamic Life Drawing for Animation and Figure Drawing for all it's Worth. With the help of these I hope to drive some improvement in this time to help my designs in the future. The past few years have given me space to reflect, I've had to adapt and realign myself to become much more focused on the future and discover what I truly value. I'm looking to restart this blog, to share some insights not only into my art journey but also into the journey of finding myself. To provide you with the lessons I have learnt and what I derive value from which may offer help to you.<div><br /></div><div>For many years I had lead a life of never really thinking about the future. I was never good at planning things and would always worry about things when I was in the midst of panic, thinking things would sort themselves out or leaving it all to chance. I began to open myself up to growth, learning more about different ways of thinking about the life I had been choosing to lead. Opening up to understanding that I need to focus a lot more on responsibility and accountability of my actions.</div><div><br /></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht9YrTLMBrXfHItNkQ4cH-AZd8_A4qDn8eRE8RacGEHrox2NheFgY8XnzVNJxuTUZo61UXoXTB9d7KoRLzVCux6l8-pZ777QIvCcY46GM2m10l80BEDy6UnKJ1OIpt6kvRVKxbdLqO6-0Q2Ceil2uVJPDVBIb935T82RovNifwOoxJhTFWZZBdGdOpEQ/s3508/Figure%20Drawing%20-%20Adorkastock%20-%2005-09-22.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2480" data-original-width="3508" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht9YrTLMBrXfHItNkQ4cH-AZd8_A4qDn8eRE8RacGEHrox2NheFgY8XnzVNJxuTUZo61UXoXTB9d7KoRLzVCux6l8-pZ777QIvCcY46GM2m10l80BEDy6UnKJ1OIpt6kvRVKxbdLqO6-0Q2Ceil2uVJPDVBIb935T82RovNifwOoxJhTFWZZBdGdOpEQ/w405-h286/Figure%20Drawing%20-%20Adorkastock%20-%2005-09-22.jpg" width="405" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Figure Drawing Exercises (<a href="https://www.adorkastock.com/sketch/">https://www.adorkastock.com/sketch/</a>)</td></tr></tbody></table><div><br /></div></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Audiobooks, Minimalisim and all that is Essential.</b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div>My wife had taken a course at work which introduced her to the work of Stephen Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Where I was struggling with my identity and future prospects she offered up some insights into the book, but I wasn't ready to receive the message yet. The title of the book instantly turned me away and the thought of self help books offering advice on the missteps of my choices had always irritated me (<span style="color: #3d85c6;">how dare you presume I'm doing something wrong</span>) As I began spiralling further into this loss I began to seek answers, something had to change and that had to start with me. </div><div><br /></div><div>My weight had increased significantly up to the period of the start of the pandemic where I'd not been looking after myself, utilising food as a reward and searching for food that wasn't providing the best nutrition to my body. I'd began to look at content around food and diet, I'd developed and intolerance to certain foods and I had to work this out as this had become a factor of distress and anxiety on a day to day basis. A friend recommended a food intolerance test which I'd sent off for and found I was intolerant to eggs, cow's milk and whey. Through this knowledge it helped me to adapt my diet, reducing the intake of these food sources to minimise discomfort and anxiety. Once I'd began to take back control of my diet I'd began to search for answers about the other parts of my life.<br /><div><br /></div><div>Enter Matt D'Avella. The bicep-bound, self-help filmmaker who introduced me to the ideas of minimalism, financial freedom and seeking value and meaning through life. His content provided a stepping stone into a journey of understanding, taking account of the mistakes I'd made and looking into reducing the probability of this predicament happening again. I had now opened myself up into searching for answers. My wife, who had suggested Covey's work previously, came along for the ride as we looked to not only strengthen ourselves but our relationship. Starting with Covey initially and then through the Matt D'Avella's content I found other vital teachings such as Ramit Sethi's I Will Teach You To Be Rich (<span style="color: #3d85c6;">again a title that kind of makes you roll your eyes but has provided such incredible value to me</span>)</div></div><div><br /></div><div>Netflix released The Minimalists: Less Is Now in 2021. Directed by D'Avella following the stories of Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus as they explain their journey of rejecting modern consumerism in an effort to focus on the value of less. This film had shone a light into my own habits of mindless consumption, not only of 'things' but in areas such as food and wellbeing. Minimalism isn't the process of getting rid of everything and living with nothing. It's a focus on living intentionally, to not be driven by impulse, to develop creatively and grow with with purpose. </div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/jn-xbOCZOiQ"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="361" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jn-xbOCZOiQ" width="481" youtube-src-id="jn-xbOCZOiQ"></iframe></a></div><a href="https://youtu.be/jn-xbOCZOiQ"><br /></a><div style="text-align: center;">The Minimalists: Less Is Now</div></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Development</b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div>I'm looking at development consistently. My wife and I decided that to ensure a level of security and to grow purposefully we have looked to set aside monthly to invest in ourselves. This year I have invested in the help of Linkedin Learning tutorials which have built on the foundational learning I had for the Adobe softwares. I have also invested in the Schoolism learning platform which is being used as a focus for digital painting and illustration but will drive growth in 3D ventures as well. I am investing in myself daily through the help of these platforms, to better myself at least 1%. </div><div><br /></div><div>Through this development I am aiming to pursue my dreams of design, hoping to provide value along the way to inspire others who felt stuck like I was. Every day I calm the frustrations of my past missteps, but now more than ever I am excited for the future. Through the past year my wife and I have set a strong foundation of financial security and a path to securing that future as well. We've invested into our relationship to become stronger selves and a stronger unit together. These steps will ensure that we can live a life filled with purpose a grow intentionally in our passions.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>In the future I will utilise the blog to provide updates on what I have been working on in the pursuits of design and artistry. I will also look to sharing content that has inspired me in the hopes of passing on the value that I have gained from it. </div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you for your time and I hope this post and the blogs continuation provides value to your day.</div>Max Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14145174288901204984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1227109061929004100.post-15121207061007996932017-07-10T18:49:00.000+01:002022-09-10T11:29:26.513+01:00Recent work update<br />

And finally I produced a self portrait in a cartoonish style in practice for another piece I'm working on and not exactly finding my footing with it! Hopefully I can overcome this in the coming weeks!</div>

Thanks for reading and in the following weeks I aim to look into some 3D studies and study some coding as well! Looking forward to sharing my endeavours soon!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Over the past few weeks I have been focusing on the facial anatomy tutorials on <a href="https://paintable.cc/" target="_blank">paintable.cc </a>. Through these tutorials I have also found an awesome tool to aid with understanding the anatomy of the human body. The 'How to paint realistic necks' section I came across the site <a href="https://human.biodigital.com/index.html">https://human.biodigital.com/index.html</a> which gives you access to a complete male and female anatomy model.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K-Y-9XLOkEQ/WSSC72e_MEI/AAAAAAAACz8/YvHbox3ZJaASaXQVwWagoxz-3a2Nm98EACLcB/s1600/anatomy%2Bmodel.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K-Y-9XLOkEQ/WSSC72e_MEI/AAAAAAAACz8/YvHbox3ZJaASaXQVwWagoxz-3a2Nm98EACLcB/s400/anatomy%2Bmodel.PNG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I would definitely recommend checking this out as it has toggle options for the different sections so that you can reveal specific muscle areas you would like to focus on!<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
Skipped a couple of months....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Been very busy with work and taking a necessary 2 week break but now very much back into the swing of things!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So first update is the daily sketching which mostly occurs during my lunch break at work. Taking references from Pinterest and sketching them out over my lunch hour after reading a chapter of my current book. (Still on Brandon Sanderson at the moment with the <b>Bands of Mourning</b>)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<b>Painting Female Hairstyles - </b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
Continuing on from the previous tutorial I used the head I had painted to do the female hairstyle tutorial. I feel that this still needs a lot of practice as I find hair extremely challenging so will work on doing hair studies to understand different styles.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ucvMw_ohZfg/V1XIX_IQBoI/AAAAAAAACkI/XD1kz-zow34xp48TDWW8X9fumMTgzYwOQCLcB/s1600/13_Final%2Bthoughts%2Band%2Brecap.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ucvMw_ohZfg/V1XIX_IQBoI/AAAAAAAACkI/XD1kz-zow34xp48TDWW8X9fumMTgzYwOQCLcB/s320/13_Final%2Bthoughts%2Band%2Brecap.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Contrasting elements for Portraiture - </b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
This tutorial felt like a behemoth with over 40 odd lessons... but well worth it!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hC3t1P8mpkg/V1XIzNmcY9I/AAAAAAAACkQ/ctahplSzsZ8IUeWygHs2m7WZutP1DnCmgCLcB/s1600/4%2B-%2BContrasting%2Belements%2Bfor%2Bcontrasting%2Bpersonalities.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hC3t1P8mpkg/V1XIzNmcY9I/AAAAAAAACkQ/ctahplSzsZ8IUeWygHs2m7WZutP1DnCmgCLcB/s320/4%2B-%2BContrasting%2Belements%2Bfor%2Bcontrasting%2Bpersonalities.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Looking forward to improving further and will be setting some days aside for 3D tutorials for development as well throughout the month.</div>
<div>

See you next time!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-azZODJ5ZTZ0/TuEM6NsBgPI/AAAAAAAAAwQ/flNlCUVuxu4/s1600/base+render+altogether.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-azZODJ5ZTZ0/TuEM6NsBgPI/AAAAAAAAAwQ/flNlCUVuxu4/s400/base+render+altogether.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
The Walkway was the part I had trouble modelling with a help from Justin's texturing the scene was brought to life. Minor changes to the set up of this initial idea is the elevator shaft being sideon in the actual animation.<br />
<br />
Earth<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qYZvzc649L0/TuIr-nR1JwI/AAAAAAAAAw4/PMSKbgwYBKA/s1600/earth+render+with+atmosphere02.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qYZvzc649L0/TuIr-nR1JwI/AAAAAAAAAw4/PMSKbgwYBKA/s400/earth+render+with+atmosphere02.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Not much to model just a sphere with an Earth texture. Over the top is an atmospheric sphere and over the top of that is the cloud layer which was set to a low transparency to view the ground below. The green tint is to give the impression of a slightly unnatural Earth to fit with our story.<br />
<br />
Moon<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q_lmB1MS1fQ/TvKmDNCVvzI/AAAAAAAAAyA/vidUuKykEkI/s1600/moon+render.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q_lmB1MS1fQ/TvKmDNCVvzI/AAAAAAAAAyA/vidUuKykEkI/s400/moon+render.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Similar story for the moon, a sphere with a craterous moon texture over the top. This was then populated with the domes.<br />
<br />
Aeroplane<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p1u-9fkuFwQ/TujpJgf8gpI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/r7-197dteN0/s1600/plane.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p1u-9fkuFwQ/TujpJgf8gpI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/r7-197dteN0/s400/plane.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Using Orthographic images I found of a passenger plane I began to model the plane in order for it to be broken up and put into a scene. <br />
<br />
Sleep Capsules<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.horrorphile.net/images/alien-hypersleep1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="http://www.horrorphile.net/images/alien-hypersleep1.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1cUhJVESqU/TvKlA46Gs3I/AAAAAAAAAx0/eJj5wnLkHU0/s1600/Sleep+capsule+scene.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1cUhJVESqU/TvKlA46Gs3I/AAAAAAAAAx0/eJj5wnLkHU0/s400/Sleep+capsule+scene.png" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>For the sleep capsules we liked the design of the <i>Alien </i>Hypersleep capsules but liked the <i>Lost In Space </i>idea of the characters being upright rather than laying down. The capsules are based off the <i>Alien </i>design.<br />
<br />
The crashed plane scene<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HcM8C9cvsCk/TxcpQlEo84I/AAAAAAAAAzw/ojaRtHRIbCE/s1600/300dpi+Aeroplane+shot+with+ao.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HcM8C9cvsCk/TxcpQlEo84I/AAAAAAAAAzw/ojaRtHRIbCE/s400/300dpi+Aeroplane+shot+with+ao.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
This scene I put together, UVing the plane and texturing it. I animated the characters for the trailer however due to pacing it had to be cut down to make sure we didn't lose any of the trailers momentum. I learnt a lot from this scene in terms of animating and rendering especially. Justin really knows his stuff when it comes to rendering and he definitely strengthened my knowledge of mental ray and passes in the animation, I'm really pleased as to how the renders turned out.<br />
<br />
Promotional<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vXpxe-kd3AQ/TxcrYkwONqI/AAAAAAAAAz4/LlJXR7LTv0c/s1600/Poster+Final.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vXpxe-kd3AQ/TxcrYkwONqI/AAAAAAAAAz4/LlJXR7LTv0c/s400/Poster+Final.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Using the characters and our scenes I created some promotional images. Posing the characters in different ways for the shots such as above and then also similar for the DVD Cover and Image<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qkWaSB-s4nY/TxcskuVcKrI/AAAAAAAAA0A/_hmemrcVe_U/s1600/CD.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qkWaSB-s4nY/TxcskuVcKrI/AAAAAAAAA0A/_hmemrcVe_U/s320/CD.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dDl8LIiwMX0/Txcs1GHtUII/AAAAAAAAA0I/AZQZZrzXOfM/s1600/DVD-WRAP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dDl8LIiwMX0/Txcs1GHtUII/AAAAAAAAA0I/AZQZZrzXOfM/s400/DVD-WRAP.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I had a little dabble with After Effects with the studio logo which features at the beginning of the animation, mainly using the mask tool to hide the sun until a certain point.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wjEfMyukEeQ/TxcuOMCWqLI/AAAAAAAAA0Y/f41K7f-FFKU/s1600/logo_city_sunrise_black_and_white.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wjEfMyukEeQ/TxcuOMCWqLI/AAAAAAAAA0Y/f41K7f-FFKU/s400/logo_city_sunrise_black_and_white.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
And finally some business cards put together to promote our studio<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3_0Rl3tglaI/TxcuyhsELuI/AAAAAAAAA0g/IWCXYAVDxBY/s1600/business+Cards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3_0Rl3tglaI/TxcuyhsELuI/AAAAAAAAA0g/IWCXYAVDxBY/s400/business+Cards.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2rXC8VfoYIc/Txcu0joIb3I/AAAAAAAAA0o/y9Cb6rFF8oA/s1600/business+Cards2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2rXC8VfoYIc/Txcu0joIb3I/AAAAAAAAA0o/y9Cb6rFF8oA/s400/business+Cards2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zyG17XNRjAM/Txcu1pFtnqI/AAAAAAAAA0w/4rDN7VjNFCk/s1600/business+Cards3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zyG17XNRjAM/Txcu1pFtnqI/AAAAAAAAA0w/4rDN7VjNFCk/s400/business+Cards3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Our final trailer<br />

<br />
After the 15-18 weeks of work I have learnt so much and had such an enjoyable experience. Thanks to Justin and Sasha who have made it enjoyable due to the easygoing nature and I think I have definitely learnt a lot, especially in terms of Maya modelling, texturing and rendering. I'm really pleased with the outcome of this project and I am raring to go for the transcription project.Max Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14145174288901204984noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1227109061929004100.post-30099950024915678542011-05-31T22:17:00.000+01:002011-09-18T21:36:40.070+01:00Unit 6 Final Animation and Art Of<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="286" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/g0nAwygbI3s" width="450"></iframe><br />
